Ghana’s national team coach, Otto Addo, has named his 26-man squad for this month’s international friendlies against Austria and Germany, with Benjamin Asare of Accra Hearts of Oak standing out as the only locally-based player selected.
Asare has been a key figure for Hearts of Oak, earning recognition for his consistency and composure between the posts. His inclusion underscores his importance to the national team despite most of his teammates plying their trade in Europe.
Addo has also handed debut call-ups to four players: Derrick Luckassen, Patrick Pfeiffer, Marvin Senaya, and Daniel Agyei.
Derrick Luckassen is a centre-back for Pafos FC in Cyprus, a product of AZ Alkmaar’s academy. He has previously played for PSV, Hertha BSC, Anderlecht, Kasımpaşa, Fatih Karagümrük, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Luckassen recently won the 2024–25 Cypriot league and scored Pafos’ first-ever Champions League goal.
Marvin Senaya, a French Ligue 1 player with AJ Auxerre, began his professional career in 2021 and has also featured for Strasbourg, Sochaux, and Lausanne-Sport.
Daniel Agyei, a forward and winger for Turkish club Kocaelispor, was born in England and previously played for Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, Oxford United, and Burnley.
Patrick Pfeiffer, a defender, plays for German Bundesliga II side Darmstadt 98.
Returning to the squad are Ghana stalwarts Iñaki Williams, Ibrahim Sulemana, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku.
